Description

MC Enterprise 31377MC Atwood Furnace Low Air Flow Sail Switch
This is a replacement sail switch for select Atwood Everest and Excalibur Furnaces. The sail switch is an air proving device. It is a safety component that will not let ignition occur until it sees 75% of the motor’s rpm’s. It ensures that the combustion wheel is rotating fast enough so that there is a proper air and gas mixture for smooth ignition.
When the paddle of the switch is depressed, there should be continuity through the switch. If a sail switch needs to be replaced, it should be replaced with the exact same size. The most common problems with these switches are bent paddles, loose wire connections or an obstruction between the paddle and switch contact.

    Sail Switch Fail

Posted by Brad Reiners on Oct 16th 2025

Numbers said it was a viable replacement for my sail switch. The 'sail' part is very narrow compared to the original, and when installed, did not activate in the wind chamber. I couldn't use it. Price was OK, so not worth the hassle of returning. Keeping it in the junk drawer for possible future use or my kids to find when they inherit it. Considered cutting out a bigger 'sail' from a pop can and super glueing it on, but I've moved on at this point.

    Sail Switch

Customer had problems with furnace not even attempting to light. Replaced the 19 year old original sail switch with this one and it solved the problem.
