Heat pump blower motor
I have two units on my fifth wheel, and when one blower motor failed (at 17 years), I knew the other one would need to be replaced, too. I found the motor I needed at another vendor who offered a lower price, but they only had one in stock. So I ordered the second one from Panther RV Products. The motor from the other vendor arrived in a beaten up box with the shaft on one end of the motor sticking out through a hole torn in the corner of the box. I was leery, but decided to install it anyway and hope for the best. It's already well over 100° here in Yuma, AZ, so I wanted to avoid any delays in getting the A/C up and running again. While I was installing the first motor, the second one arrived from Panther. It was the best packing job I've ever seen and there was just no way the motor could have been damaged in transit. Once the first motor was installed and we turned on the unit, there was a bad vibration evident. I decided I'd try to live with it because as I mentioned . . . it's Yuma, AZ and it's summer. But it got worse, until it finally loosened two of the mounting bolts. I'd had enough and contacted the vendor about what I was experiencing. In their defense, I must say they were polite, professional and more than willing to rectify my issue, which they did by supplying a new motor in an unopened box just as they received it from the manufacturer and paid the return shipping on the defective motor. While that defective motor was en route back to them, I went ahead and installed the new motor from Panther in the other heat pump. Upon firing it up, it worked perfectly and there was no evidence of any vibration whatsoever. Panther's price on the identical motor was a little more ($30) than the first vendor's price, but for all the aggravation suffered because of what was probably a slightly bent shaft caused by rough handling and inadequate packing in its five-day transit from the vendor, $30 seems like a small price to pay to avoid such a troublesome headache entirely.
