The E.C.O Thermostat is a closed switch that sends voltage to the solenoid valve. The switch opens if the water temperature exceeds 180°F, protecting the water heater from damage. If there is a spark present on your water heater, but no gas flow, it could be a defective E.C.O Temperature Switch.Additional Info

I went to install them. First the two thermostats don't have obvious markings as two which thermostat is which. When I used a magnifying glass I could find an embossed part number, one of which had an 82 in it (for 82 degrees C) and the other which had a 60 in it (for 60 degrees C). The 82 is the ECO and the 60 is the regular thermostat. The adhesive foam patch sent was too big for my WH-6GEA. It uses the foam patch shown in the far right photo, not the patch which has the up arrow and the two ear cutout (one on each side). I am sure that I will be able to cut it down to size but the labels will not be in the correct location.
