RV Propane and BTU’s
This cooktop requires low pressure (11” W.C.) propane for operation. This is achieved with a low pressure regulator which is standard/required on all RV's. If there is not a pre-existing RV propane system, then you have to setup a low pressure propane system.
RV Cooktops are designed smaller than household cooktops, which means they produce less heat than the large burners on your cooktop at home. An average household cooktop has a BTU rating of 10,000. Additionally, you will most likely be using this cooktop during your travels with varying elevations. This cooktop is rated for an elevation up to 4,500 feet. Operation above this elevation will reduce the BTU's by 4 percent for every 1,000 feet above 4,500 feet. For example, at 8,500 feet, the cooktop will perform approximately 16 percent less than it's rated BTU's. This is caused by a few factors including the lack of oxygen in the air and the change in the air/fuel mixture.

Fell after 6 month of everyday use in my camper van

Posted by Jacky on Nov 20th 2023

After approximately six months of daily use, the top covers of both burners have bent, and the right-side one has fallen off. It’s impossible to reattach it because the screw threads are pointing in another direction. Dometic’s warranty provided a replacement, but it suffered the same fate. I hope Dometic addresses this known issue by using a heat-resistant material for the burner cover to ensure the product’s longevity.

    Condition of Product

Posted by Pat Brady on Feb 14th 2022

I was disappointed. When this arrived there were scratches. I purchased the glass top and it came with a bum hinge and finger prints. The 12V wire connector required removal to access the screws to wire in the wires. Some have small pots that are too small over the flame. But it is the best handle safe away from the flames unit. I expect years of satisfied performance ... I wonder how it would perform at higher altitudes.

    Domestic cooktop cast iron grate.

Posted by Tom Jefferies on Jul 19th 2021

Purchased from Panther RV. Excellent prompt shipping to Calgary. I have installed it in my 1973 Trillium 13’. Replacing existing original cooktop that was rusted and had no flame control. I chose the Dometic for its flush to counter design and cast iron grate. I have not cooked on it yet but the flame lights easily with the 12V igniter and flame control is excellent. I always enjoy cooking on cast iron grate stoves/cooktops however I have only rated this 4 star as the design of the grate that leaves an opening in the middle is weird. Maybe it saves a bit of weight or something but makes it hard to fit my coffee pot on without tipping. Larger pots no problem.

    Dometic™ D21-SEC (50216) RV 2-Burner Propane Cooktop - Stainless Steel - Cast Iron Grate

Posted by Sailor Chris on May 2nd 2020

The cast iron grate was a major attraction for marine use. It offers a good stable base. The left hand burner (hotter one) is too powerful for the base frame, the stainless side frame becomes scorched. I did not check before purchase about the thermo-couples - it does not have them. I did not check because I thought that these are a standard, even mandatory, safety feature. Buyer beware..
